Congratulations to Kris (Minten) Rold and Matt Rold who both earned their National Board Certification in Physical Education! Kris completed her certification in November 2008 and Matt completed his in November 2009.
They both received BS degrees in Health and Human Performance and their MAT degrees in 1994 from OSU, and have been teaching elementary physical education in Washington State for the last 16 years. “Our special OSU memory is meeting in an undergraduate class and getting engaged during our MAT program,” says Kris. “Matt was student teaching at a local high school where he told the class he was going to propose to me and they gave him some advice on how to do it!”
“We enjoy being active and love traveling and hiking,” says Kris. “We have traveled throughout the United States, Canada and Europe where we explore beautiful mountains and country sides.” Kris and Matt also serve on the Board of Directors for the Council on Children’s Expanded Physical Education that hosts the Annual Northwest Conference on Children’s Physical Education. Eight of ten on the board are OSU grads.
Barb Cusimano, associate professor in nutrition and exercise sciences and coordinator of the college’s Physical Education Teacher Education program proudly reports that Kris and Matt join two other OSU alums in receiving their certification – Meg Greiner, Central School District, Monmouth/Independence, was certified in 2002 and Teresa Sakaguchi, Tigard/Tualatin School District in 2005.
