The lecture, titled “It Takes Two to Tango; Unintended Pregnancy and STI Prevention,” will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 13, in the CH2M Hill Alumni Center’s Willamette Room.

The event is free and open to the public and will address how her work in constellation with that of many others social scientist has shifted the research paradigm in pregnancy and disease prevention over the last three decades.

“We needed to move beyond including only women in our research, to also examining men’s involvement in sexual risk-taking and the influence of relationship dynamics on sexual behavior,” Marie says. “Not all relationships are equal.”

College of Forestry Professor William Ripple will lecture on “Conservation by Tooth and Claw: Top Predators Shape Ecosystems” at 2 p.m.

Both professors were named Oregon State’s highest designation – Distinguished Professor – in March for their leadership, scholarship and contributions to the university.

Marie, who has been a public health faculty member since 2003 and instrumental in establishing the soon-to-be first and only accredited college of public health and human sciences in Oregon, is internationally known for her work in reproductive and sexual health.
