College of Public Health and Human Sciences Dean Javier Nieto was recently featured as an expert in the Boston University School of Public Health’s annual report. The project features 24 public health deans and directors, past and present, from schools and programs across the country and asks them to provide insight into today’s public health challenges and opportunities.

BU School of Public Health Dean Sandro Galea acknowledges that in troubling times like today, academic public health plays a more assertive role than ever. In an article accompanying the video project, he says that while the field continues to generate knowledge and educate students, it should also make sure its work is disseminated clearly and is easily accessible.

“We need to learn better and communicate with scientists in other disciplines, with other sectors and with other groups in society who have different political views than those that we hold,” Javier says in his video clip featured in the project. He also speaks to the important role the community plays in public health.

Listen to Javier’s entire clip, along with the other experts featured in the project, on the BU School of Public Health website.
