It’s a perfect time of year to start healthy habits outdoors! According to assistant professor and Extension faculty Kathy Gunter, the simple act of taking a walk after dinner as a family may help children learn the value of physical activity.
Children are more likely to be active if they think it’s fun and if their family values activity. Start a routine 10-15 minute walk in the morning or after dinner. Better yet, add 15 minutes of free-form dancing around the living room to your kids’ favorite band. You’ll be supporting healthy choices AND having family time away from the TV!

Kathy,
Thanks so much for the simple yet inspiring tips you are offering for young families. I work as a Health & Nutrition Specialist for Head Start of Lane Co. and I plan to incorporate your information from this site into my work with families this year.
