OSU Dean Nieto receives emeritus faculty award

The Wisconsin Medical Alumni Association has selected  Oregon State’s College of Public Health and Human Sciences Dean F. Javier Nieto to receive the WMAA Basic Sciences Emeritus Faculty Award for 2021.

The Wisconsin Medical Alumni Association (WMAA) has selected Dean F. Javier Nieto, MD, PhD, MPH, MS to receive the WMAA Basic Sciences Emeritus Faculty Award for 2021. Dean of Oregon State University’s College of Public Health and Human Sciences, Dr. Nieto joined the college in 2016.   

A physician-epidemiologist, Dean Nieto served as chair of the Department of Population Health Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison from 2002-2015. He is currently co-principal investigator for TRACE-COVID-19, a public health surveillance project to help determine the prevalence of the virus that causes COVID-19 in Oregon communities. 

The WMAA award recognizes his long and effective service to the UW School of Medicine and Public Health in teaching and/or research or noteworthy administration, including program development. 

“I have great affection and respect for the University of Wisconsin and feel humbled and honored by this award,” he says.
