Nutrition alumna honored for her influence on Oregonian health

Anne Goetze’s interest in nutrition started in high school health class and has evolved into a career where she’s positioned to influence statewide programs supporting healthy communities. And in May, the senior director of nutrition affairs for the Oregon Dairy and Nutrition Council was selected as this year’s Moore Family Center Red Plate Award recipient for her impact on the nutrition and health of Oregonians.

Rebecca Chàvez graduated with her bachelor’s degree in Public Health with a concentration in Health Promotion and Health Behavior in Spring 2011. For the past three years, she’s worked for Polk County Public Health in Dallas, Oregon, and started in her current role of outreach specialist in 2017.

For the next generation, a gift of good health

“One of the [asparagus] fields was right next to the house,” she recalls. “I can remember as a kid, I’d put the water on to boil, go out and pick as much asparagus as I thought we needed for dinner, wash it, and drop it in the pot.”
