College of Public Health and Human Sciences alumna Jenny Jackson, PhD ’15, has received the 2015 Student Leader Award from Oregon State University for her contributions to students, the community and Oregon.

“Growing up in a family of public school teachers and administrators, I was inspired to pursue a career that was focused on others…I wanted to be an element of change in health care that is focused on finding solutions,” Demetria says.
“My advice as a future alumna of Oregon State University is to find your passion, reach out during adversities and live life to the fullest without fears,” says CPHHS student Adriana Villegas, who will graduate June 2015. “Make your Beaver legacy.”
Public health and human sciences students represent the future of health, and to recognize their achievements the college treated 325 high-achieving scholarship and fellowship recipients to two new events.
In comparison to bigger cities like Portland, or even Corvallis, Philomath supports a relatively small population and is set in a rural, forested location. But the frequent bustling of logging trucks and daily activity at local sawmills has some residents concerned about air quality.
