Assistant professors Sean Newsom and Matt Robinson, with Ph.D. students Sarah Ehrlicher and Harrison Stierwalt, and in collaboration with Professor Surendra Dasari of the Mayo Clinic, recently published a study in the American Journal of Physiology-Endocrinology and Metabolism reporting that diet-induced obesity in mice increased mitochondrial proteins specifically involved with fat metabolism, but less so for other energy producing pathways. This is an important study that provides new clues regarding molecular mechanisms for accumulation of lipid metabolites in obesity.
