Professor published in New England Journal of Medicine

Melissa Haendel, associate professor and director of translational data science in the Center for Gene and Biotechnology Research and member of the graduate faculty in public health and nutrition, is the lead author in a review article just published in the New England Journal of Medicine titledĀ “Classification, ontology and precision medicine.” In this paper, she and co-authors describe how ontologies, systematic representations of knowledge that can be used to integrate and analyze large amounts of data from different sources, and computational reasoning support precise classification of patients for diagnosis, care management and translational research.
