To encourage high school students to choose healthier options at lunch – and throughout their lives – two OSU dietetic interns are working to make healthy eating the more attractive choice through simple marketing techniques.

Human Development and Family Sciences (HDFS) is the study of individual development across the entire lifespan, and the HDFS major at Oregon State University’s College of Public Health and Human Sciences is in high demand among those who want to help others improve their lives.
CPHHS undergraduate students are learning the importance research has on influencing the health and well-being of the community and beyond through the Undergraduate Research Awards Program (URAP).
“I truly hope that our intervention empowered the villagers to eat healthy and be more mindful of their dietary intake,” says Nutrition student Rosa Keller, who studied abroad in Thailand.
It was hard to miss – smack dab in the center of the MU quad stood a large white tent with more than a dozen vendors providing healthy eating tips, hosting activities and sampling food for the 5th annual National Nutrition Month at Oregon State in March.
“Spending time with interns is the most rewarding part of my job,” says OSUDI Program Clinical Coordinator Michelle Bump. “Every intern who goes through the OSUDI Program is a future dietitian with unlimited career potential, and I hope to inspire them to be their best self.”
