Study finds relationship factors affect decisions about contraceptive use among young adults

The dynamics of a couple’s relationship, including the exclusivity of the partnership, the level of commitment to the partnership and participation in sexual decision-making with their partner, impact young adults’ decisions related to contraceptive use, new research shows.

“A lot of my work involves witnessing human suffering and vulnerability. Most of what I’ve written is supported by direct narratives from people I’ve interviewed. I strive to affect people’s lives by transmitting their voices to others and informing transformative interventions that alleviate suffering and promote health. I also strive to be a good teacher and mentor for my students – which many times simply involves active and empathic listening.”

When grief turns to hope

Within a year, former Oregon State gymnast and Kinesiology major Taylor Ricci and men’s soccer player and Finance major Nathan Braaten experienced the emotional turmoil of suicide when they lost a teammate. Through personal grief and frustration, the duo put their heads together to brainstorm ideas to bring mental health awareness out in the open.
